in shanghai, the plane trees that line the old french concession are called 梧桐, wutong. london’s streets are lined with plane trees too, and each leaf opens like a hand.

the name begins with 吴, wu, the family name behind the label, and the leaves fall just as it turns cold enough for gloves.

we make handmade gloves in nappa leather, suede and calf hair, in small runs of each colour, all in size 7.

不来也不去: leaves come and go, and the tree stays.

the return of the skirt suit

the winter 2026 fashion trends for women worth wearing on a weekday, from relaxed skirt suits to long leather gloves and colours near black.

published , by wutong studio, 6 minute read

the short answer

the winter 2026 fashion trends for women worth wearing are relaxed tailoring, above all the return of the mid-length skirt suit, wrapped and peplum blazers, gloves that run past the wrist at max mara and khaite, and a dark palette of midnight, plum, carbon, moss and scarlet9. texture matters more than decoration.

black and cream checkerboard suede gloves with a collarless black jacket, a long black skirt and a black leather bag on a stone pavement

the autumn/winter 2026 shows were long on spectacle and short on things you could actually put on at eight in the morning. trains swept the floor at dior and mcqueen, fur grew up the legs of trousers at schiaparelli, and loewe sent out inflatable scarves. look past the finale pieces, though, and the season keeps returning to two ideas: a jacket cut with real intent, and an arm finished in leather.

that is the edit. of all the winter 2026 fashion trends for women, the ones worth your money are tailoring that has loosened without going soft, gloves that run past the wrist, and a palette so dark it reads as black from across a room. everything else is weather.

the skirt suit comes back with its sleeves rolled

the suit of the season is not a trouser suit. coveteur’s runway report1 opened with the line that “skirt suits took over the runway this season in every possible way”, and the evidence was hard to argue with: a lapel-less purple suit at jil sander, deconstructed tailoring at ferragamo, and at tom ford, under haider ackermann, a suede skirt suit in poppy red and ecru. at chanel, matthieu blazy returned to the boxy, mid-length set more than twenty times, according to the zoe report2, in cream tweed trimmed with fringe, brocade and sequinned plaid.

the reason it looks new is the length. a skirt that falls to the middle of the calf, worn with a jacket that stops at the hip, gives the body a long, deliberate column, and the gap between hem and boot becomes part of the composition. wear it with a fine black roll-neck instead of a blouse and it loses any whiff of the boardroom.

for those who keep their trousers, instyle’s fashion-month round-up3 noted that “the cinched suits of the c-suite have given way to more relaxed tailoring” at boss, emporio armani and givenchy, alongside a run of shirts and ties at givenchy and jean paul gaultier. a slightly long grey jacket, a pale poplin shirt buttoned to the top, a narrow silk tie in a darker grey: it is the most grown-up look of the season, and the least expensive to copy.

the blazer, wrapped and nipped

two smaller shifts in the jacket matter more than they first appear. in paris, the zoe report spotted4 blazers worn “a touch askew”, wrapped across the torso at dries van noten and flared under the second button at alainpaul. the same report says the peplum has “graduated from nostalgic trend to default jacket silhouette”, with versions at dior, the row, givenchy and mcqueen.

both are about the waist, and both reward a little restraint. a wrap blazer works best when everything else is straight: a column skirt, a slim trouser, a flat boot. a peplum looks sharpest in a dense, dry wool that holds its flare rather than a soft crêpe that droops into it. if you buy one jacket this winter, make it the one that shows where your waist is.

gloves that keep going

this is the accessory story of the season, and the one with the longest life in it. at max mara, ian griffiths built his collection around the coat5 and finished it with long suede gloves. at khaite, catherine holstein put opera gloves over short sleeves in “stark tan, glossy black, and subtle python print”, according to nowfashion’s look notes6, and mismatched a black glove with a python one in a single look. net-a-porter’s aw26 trend guide7 named long gloves the season’s finishing touch, citing max mara, sportmax, balenciaga, ralph lauren and khaite.

what makes a long glove modern is where you wear it. over the cropped sleeve of a coat, it turns the arm into a single dark line from shoulder to fingertip, and a sleeveless knit becomes something you can wear outdoors in november. over a jacket’s sleeve, ruched at the elbow, it gives tailoring a little softness.

not every glove this season was long, or plain. anna sui’s colourful pairs earned their own section in the instyle round-up, under the heading “cherry on top gloves”, and fringe ran through chanel, loewe and rick owens. at carven, nowfashion noted8 leather gloves “finished in long fringe”. if the opera length feels like too much for a tuesday, a wrist-length glove with movement or colour does the same job of drawing the eye to the hand. wutong’s black fringe gloves were made for exactly that, and its plum python-print suede gloves are a quieter version of anna sui’s argument.

a palette that lives near black

the colours of the season are the colours of a city after dark. who what wear’s colour report9 put midnight first, at ferragamo, gucci, burberry and victoria beckham, followed by plum at miu miu and hermès, carbon grey at prada and bottega veneta, muted moss at fendi, and scarlet at chanel and chloé. the zoe report added royal purple, seen at chloé, loewe, mugler and balenciaga.

the useful insight is that these shades behave like neutrals. midnight next to black reads as depth, not a mismatch; carbon flannel is softer than charcoal; plum pairs as calmly with chocolate as burgundy ever did. a single saturated note, scarlet or royal purple, works best at the extremities, where it moves: a glove, a shoe, a lip.

texture over decoration

the last idea is the quietest. net-a-porter singled out velvet tailoring, shown head to toe at calvin klein collection, khaite and alaïa, and over-the-knee boots in soft suede at givenchy, chloé, tom ford and toteme. coveteur called it “tactile texture” and found it at bottega veneta and louis vuitton. in practice it means a winter wardrobe that is interesting in the hand rather than the eye: brushed wool against suede, velvet against glossy leather. that is why gloves suit this season so well. they are the one accessory you touch all day.

skip the inflatable scarf. keep the long skirt, the wrapped jacket, the dark colours and the gloves, and you will still be wearing them in 2028.

wutong makes handmade leather gloves, from python-print suede to black fringed nappa, the kind of finishing touch this season was built around. start with the fringe gloves; a pair makes a considered present for someone who already dresses with intent.

quick answers

what is the biggest accessory trend for winter 2026?
gloves, specifically long ones. max mara, khaite, balenciaga, ralph lauren and sportmax all showed gloves at or past the elbow for aw26, and wrist-length gloves in colour or with fringe appeared at anna sui and carven.
which tailoring trend is easiest to wear?
the relaxed suit. a slightly long, softly shouldered jacket with straight trousers works for the office and for dinner, and it is the aw26 idea most likely to look right for years rather than months.
is black still in for winter 2026?
very much so, though the season prefers its near relations. midnight, carbon and plum dominated the runways and sit comfortably alongside black, so a dark wardrobe needs only a change of texture to feel current.
